Your local Surf Coast pharmacy

From Anglesea to the surrounding areas along the Great Ocean Road, we are the independent pharmacy that knows your name, your history, and your community.

Here When You Need Us

Seven days a week, no exceptions. Surf Coast life doesn't slow down on weekends, and neither do we. Whether it's a Sunday script or an urgent question during the school holidays, our doors are open.

Advice You Can Act On

Our pharmacists are locals too — we sit down with you, not talk over you. We explain your medications in plain language, flag anything that doesn't look right, and make sure you leave actually understanding your treatment.

Local Owners, Local Staff

We're locally owned and our team lives in the community we serve. Every decision we make is guided by what's right for our patients — not a head office policy. You'll see the same familiar faces each visit, and they'll remember you.

Your local pharmacy. Come in any time.

Serving Anglesea, Aireys Inlet, Fairhaven, Torquay, Bellbrae and the Surf Coast region. No appointment needed — just walk in, seven days a week.

Independent since day one.

Anglesea Pharmacy sits on the Great Ocean Road — one of the most visited stretches of coastline in Australia. We've been here through changing seasons, growing families, and everything in between — and we plan to stay.

Being independent means we can focus entirely on the people in front of us. We're not answering to shareholders or a national network. We're answering to you — our patients and our neighbours.

If you've been coming to us for years, thank you — we don't take that for granted. And if you're walking in for the first time, you can expect the same level of care either way.

Anglesea Pharmacy

"Every person who walks through our door deserves time, attention, and an honest answer. To be the kind of pharmacy this community can rely on: one that listens, explains it clearly, and remembers you next time."

Pharmacist & Owner

James Chan grew up in Melbourne, the son of two pharmacists, and spent his summers volunteering as a Lifesaver and Lifeguard with the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club — a connection to this coastline that never faded. After studying pharmacy at La Trobe University in Bendigo, where his training had a particular focus on rural and regional health, James developed a deep understanding of what it means to deliver care in communities where access to medical professionals isn't always easy.

His early career took him to Austin Health in Melbourne, where he worked as a Clinical Pharmacist and Health Informatician. It was this work — at the intersection of clinical care and digital health systems — that opened the door to an extraordinary international chapter. James spent three years at the world-renowned Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, before moving to Doha, Qatar, where he undertook pharmacy and consulting work for Sidra Health. These overseas roles gave him invaluable exposure to global health trends, different approaches to patient care, and treatments and systems rarely encountered in Australia. Back in Melbourne, he spent four years as a Senior Pharmacist at Alfred Health establishing the hospital's Electronic Medical Records system, then joined KPMG as an Associate Director in Health, Ageing and Human Services — advising across government, the private sector and the Department of Health on strategic digital health planning.

After a decade working at the intersection of clinical care, technology and policy — across three continents — James returned to the place he always loved. He bought Anglesea Pharmacy because he believes great community pharmacy is built on trust, time and knowing the person in front of you. The Surf Coast isn't just where he works. It's home.

Questions we hear all the time.

Common questions from patients and visitors — answered plainly by our team.

Can I just walk in and talk to a pharmacist?

Yes — walk-ins are welcome any time. You don't need a prescription or an appointment to speak with us. We're happy to help with product recommendations, medication questions, or general health advice. If we think something needs a GP, we'll tell you clearly and help you take the next step.

I've run out of my regular medication. Can you help?

In many cases, yes. Victorian pharmacists can provide a limited emergency supply of certain medications without a prescription when clinically appropriate. Come in as soon as you can — the sooner you're here, the more options we have available to us.

Managing multiple medications is getting complicated. Can you help?

We can. For patients managing several medications, we offer Webster Paks — your medications are pre-sorted into individual doses by day and time, removing the guesswork from daily routines. We can also help you understand your eScripts and remind you when repeats are due. Come in and we'll find what works best for you.

What is Chemist Care Now and can I use it here?

Chemist Care Now is a Victorian Government program that allows our pharmacists to prescribe certain medications directly — without you needing a GP appointment first. It covers conditions like urinary tract infections and oral contraception. Come in and ask our team whether your condition is eligible. It's a faster, more convenient option for many patients.

Do you offer vaccinations and do I need to book?

Yes, we offer a range of vaccinations including flu and COVID-19. In most cases you can walk in without an appointment — just ask our team what's currently available. Keeping up with vaccinations is one of the most effective things you can do for your own health and the wellbeing of those around you.

I have diabetes. Can you help with NDSS products?

Yes. We're a registered NDSS access point, which means we stock subsidised diabetes-related products including glucose monitoring supplies, insulin syringes and lancets. We can also help you register with the NDSS if you haven't already, and provide ongoing advice on managing your diabetes day to day.

Do you hire out equipment like wheelchairs or crutches?

We do. We offer short and long-term hire of mobility and rehabilitation equipment including crutches, wheelchairs and shower seats — useful for patients recovering from surgery or injury, or those needing extra support at home. Ask our team about what's available and current hire terms.

I'm visiting Anglesea. Can I still use your pharmacy?

Absolutely. We see a lot of visitors passing through and you'll receive exactly the same service as any of our regulars. Whether you need a prescription filled, have run out of medication, need first aid supplies or just want some advice — come in. No referral needed.

What's the difference between brand and generic medications?

A generic contains the same active ingredient as the branded version and is required by law to perform equivalently. In most cases switching to a generic is appropriate and can save you money. That said, there are some medications where brand consistency matters — and we'll always tell you if that applies to yours.

How do I know if my medications are safe to take together?

Bring everything in — prescription medications, vitamins, supplements and anything over the counter — and one of our pharmacists will review them. It's called a Home Medicines Review, it's free, and it's one of the most valuable things we offer. Interactions between medications and supplements can be significant and are worth checking.

Something else on your mind?

Come in, give us a ring, or drop us a message. We'd always rather you ask.
